Marking the 40th Anniversary of Heritage of Pride and the 55th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising

New York City, NY – March 25, 2024 – Heritage of Pride | NYC Pride, one of the world's most renowned LGBTQIA+ Pride organizers, is thrilled to announce its roster of events for the month of June and culminating in the much-anticipated 2024 Pride March on Sunday, June 30. “This year marks the 40th anniversary of Heritage of Pride becoming the official organizers of this iconic event and we are honored to continue our legacy of advocating for equality and celebrating diversity,” said Sue Doster, Co-Chair. This year events will include festivals, parties and calls to action that center Queer joy and unity. “Given the chilling rhetoric and legislation targeting trans youth and their families, we are committed  to creating safe, Queer-affirming spaces that empower all LGBTQIA+ youth,” shared Sandra M. Perez, NYC Pride’s Executive Director.

June has become synonymous with Pride Month in New York. LGBTQIA+New Yorkers, visitors from out of state and across the globe flock to New York City to participate in this month-long celebration that marks the Stonewall Uprising and the quest for human rights for all individuals.  “At this crucial time, we should all rally together for LGBTQIA+ rights and for the freedom to love and live authentically. Join us, advocates and allies alike, in solidarity. Let's support the Queer community, each other, and strive for equal rights and liberty across all identities. When we stand united, everyone benefits.” stated Co-Chair Kazz Alexander.

NYC Pride March: A Symbol of Resilience and Unity
The highlight of the weekend, the iconic NYC Pride March, takes place on Sunday, June 30. Originating in 1970 as a civil rights demonstration following the Stonewall Uprising, the March has evolved into a powerful symbol of resilience, unity, and advocacy. As we commemorate our 40th anniversary, let us honor the past, celebrate the present, and continue the fight for a brighter, more inclusive future.

This year's March holds particular significance as it marks four decades since its inception, serving as a platform for marginalized communities to amplify their voices, demand justice, and push for societal change. It has been a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ individuals worldwide, inspiring similar events across the globe and fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.

The 40th anniversary of the NYC Pride March is a testament to the progress made in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, but it also serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges and inequalities that persist. As we come together to march through the streets of New York City, let us remember the importance of unity and solidarity. Join us as we proudly march towards a brighter future for all.
