NYC Pride Announces Talent For Multi-Day Pride Island at Pier 97

NYC Pride, the official host of WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50, is pleased to announce its first phase of talent announcements with the legendary Saturday headliner Grace Jones, along with Teyana Taylor, Pabllo Vittar, and more for Pride Island 2019.

NEW YORK, NY, MARCH 13, 2019– NYC Pride, the official host of WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50, is pleased to announce its first phase of talent announcements with the legendary Saturday headliner Grace Jones, along with Teyana Taylor, Pabllo Vittar, and more for Pride Island 2019. Pride Island, the multi-day live musical event featuring dazzling performances, will take place from Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Pier 97 in New York City. Sunday’s headliner will be announced at a later date.

“We’re thrilled to be able to create this multi-day experience, which speaks to an inclusive set of Pride goers, during one of the biggest Pride events in the world,” said Chris Frederick, Managing Director,NYC Pride. “With the iconic Grace Jones headlining on Saturday and the incredible list of curated talent, this musical experience is definitely not to be missed.”

Grace Jones, an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and actress, was born in Jamaica before relocating to Syracuse, NY with her family. She began her successful career as a model in NYC and Paris and, in 1977, secured her first record deal which resulted in a string of dance-club hits, including "I Need A Man," and her acclaimed reinvention of Edith Piaf's classic, "La Vie En Rose." Jones is most famously known for her post-disco dance track "Pull Up to the Bumper," and an array of features in motion pictures including “Conan the Destroyer,” “Vamp,” and the 1992 classic, “Boomerang.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to perform in front of my LGBTQIA+ friends and the community that’s supported me for so many years during WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50,” said Jones. “Saturday’s Pride Island lineup will be a celebration of everything that the community stands for and will go down in illustrious history.”

Teyana Taylor, one of the most versatile entertainers of her generation, is set to give face and New York ballroom realness during Saturday’s lineup. As a respected recording artist, dancer, choreographer, fitness aficionado, actress and model, she’s made waves across a variety of fields. Her hit sophomore album, K.T.S.E., produced by Kanye West, debuted at #2 on the top R&B Albums chart and has been lauded by press worldwide.

Also set to blaze the stage is Brazil’s most famous drag queen, Pabllo Vittar. In the past two years, the “Sua Cara” singer has been nominated for multiple awards, including a Latin Grammy in 2018, making her the first drag queen to be nominated. She was also nominated as the “Best Brazilian Act” for the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Rounding out Saturday night, is Afro-Latina pop sensation, Amara La Negra. The “Insecure” and “What a Bam Bam” entertainer, who has dominated her transition into the American mainstream spotlight with her transparent and multi-faceted charisma, along with popular NYC DJ, Johnny Dynell, who will bring his infectious and inclusive style to the stage.

An additional announcement is coming soon to finalize Saturday’s lineup of talent.

On Pride Island Sunday, Abel and Morabito will take the lead, with Abel spinning classic dance floor hits and Morabito turning out progressive, tech house influenced sounds. The headliner for Sunday’s edition of Pride Island will also be announced at a later date.

“We’re planning an action-packed weekend of live performances, that will build upon the excitement of what Pride attendees know as Pride Island, for our biggest and most inclusive year yet,” said Jose Ramos, Pride Island Director. “We’re turning up the heat this year, in honor of WorldPride 2019 |Stonewall 50. It’s slated to be a truly unforgettable celebration.

WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50 will be comprised of more than 25 different events for LGBTQIA+ and allied people during the full month of June, 2019.
